eSIM APN Settings — When & How to Set Them | Roamix

In the vast majority of cases, Roamix eSIM plans configure APN settings automatically during installation — you don't need to do anything. If you've installed your eSIM and have signal but no internet, a manual APN fix takes less than two minutes.

Do You Need to Change APN?

Probably not. When you install a Roamix eSIM, the profile includes the correct APN configuration for every supported network. Your phone applies these settings automatically.

You might need to set an APN manually only if:

  • You're on Android and the automatic APN wasn't applied correctly.
  • You upgraded your phone and restored from a backup that includes incorrect APN settings.
  • You're in Japan and using a local Android device that doesn't accept carrier-provisioned APNs.
  • You installed the eSIM but your phone shows mobile data connected with no actual internet (pages won't load, apps won't connect).

What Is an APN?

APN stands for Access Point Name. It's the configuration your phone uses to know how to connect to the mobile internet through a carrier's network. Think of it as the network "address" your phone sends data requests to. Every carrier has at least one APN. The wrong APN = connected to the network but no internet.

Manual APN on iPhone

iPhone's APN settings for eSIM plans are generally locked and managed by the carrier profile — you can't freely edit them. If you need to set an APN on iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular.
  2. Tap your Roamix eSIM line.
  3. Tap "Cellular Data Network" (this option may not appear on all iPhones — if it's not there, the APN is managed by the eSIM profile automatically).
  4. Under "Cellular Data", clear the APN field and enter the value from your Roamix order confirmation email.
  5. Leave Username and Password blank unless your confirmation email specifies otherwise.
  6. Press the Home button or swipe up — settings save automatically.
  7. Toggle Airplane Mode on and off to apply changes.

If you don't see the "Cellular Data Network" option, your eSIM profile is managing the APN automatically and you cannot change it — which means the APN is already correct.

Manual APN on Android

Android allows full manual APN control:

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Networks (Samsung: Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks).
  2. Tap "Access Point Names" (Samsung: "Access Point Names" under Mobile Networks).
  3. Tap the + icon to add a new APN.
  4. Fill in:
  • Name: Roamix eSIM (or any label you prefer)
  • APN: the value from your Roamix order confirmation email
  • Username: leave blank
  • Password: leave blank
  • All other fields: leave as default
  1. Tap the three-dot menu (or Save) to save.
  2. Select your new APN by tapping the radio button next to it.
  3. Toggle Airplane Mode on and off.

Japan eSIM APN Settings (Android)

Japan can require a specific APN on some Android devices. If you're in Japan and have signal but no internet:

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
  2. Tap + to add a new APN.
  3. Enter:
  • Name: Roamix eSIM (or any name)
  • APN: vmobile.jp
  • Username: leave blank
  • Password: leave blank
  • Authentication Type: None
  • All other fields: leave as default
  1. Save and select this new APN.
  2. Restart your device.

This resolves the no-internet issue on the majority of Android devices in Japan. iPhone users in Japan generally don't need to set this manually.

Still No Internet After Setting APN?

If manually setting the APN doesn't restore internet access:

  • Double-check Data Roaming is enabled for your Roamix eSIM line.
  • Try toggling the eSIM line off and back on.
  • Restart your device after making APN changes.
  • Verify the APN value you entered is exactly correct — even a single character difference breaks connectivity.

Contact support@roamix.app if you're still stuck — include your device model and the APN value you entered.
