Trip Planner FAQ
When should I choose a regional eSIM over individual country plans?
A regional eSIM is usually better if you are visiting 3 or more countries in the same region within a single trip, especially if you cross borders frequently. The convenience of one installation outweighs the slightly higher cost. For 1 to 2 countries, individual country plans typically offer better per-GB value and faster local speeds.
How do I choose the best travel eSIM plan for remote work?
For remote workers and digital nomads who need reliable internet, we recommend choosing the highest reliability setting in the planner, buying more data than you expect to use with a 50% buffer for work use, and installing the eSIM before departure on stable home Wi-Fi. Prioritize destinations with confirmed 5G coverage for the best experience.
Can I use the trip planner for long-term travel or digital nomad trips?
Yes. The planner supports trips of any length, from weekend getaways to multi-month stays. For extended travel of 30 or more days, the planner typically recommends larger data plans to avoid the higher per-GB cost of frequent small top-ups. For stays exceeding 90 days in one country, a local SIM may offer better value.
Can one travel eSIM cover multiple people in a family?
No. Each eSIM is tied to one device. However, if your device supports mobile hotspot, you can share your eSIM data with other devices, though this drains data significantly faster. For a family trip, we recommend each person purchase their own Roamix plan. You can manage all plans under one Roamix account.
How does the planner determine the recommended data amount?
The Trip eSIM Planner uses your trip duration, number of destinations, number of travelers, and self-reported usage intensity (light, moderate, or heavy) to calculate a recommended data range. It applies the same consumption benchmarks as our Data Calculator but adjusts for the specific usage patterns of different trip styles.
Can I use multiple eSIMs simultaneously on my phone?
iPhones and most modern Android phones can store multiple eSIM profiles but typically only activate one data eSIM at a time alongside your physical SIM. You can switch the active data eSIM in settings when you cross into a new country. Check your specific device specifications to confirm how many eSIM profiles it can store and activate concurrently.
