Compatibility FAQ
How does the eSIM compatibility checker work?
The checker analyzes browser signals, user-agent strings, and device hardware hints to identify your device model and estimate its eSIM support status. It then provides manual verification steps you can follow directly in your phone's settings, because the definitive answer always lives in your phone, not a browser.
Is the eSIM compatibility result guaranteed to be accurate?
No browser-based tool can guarantee 100% accuracy across all device variants, regional versions, and carrier configurations. Identical phone models can have different eSIM capabilities depending on the regional variant, such as US versus international versions. Always confirm eSIM support using the manual verification steps shown on the page before purchasing a plan.
What should I do if the checker says 'model check needed'?
Open your phone's Settings app and go to Cellular on iPhone or Network and Internet, then SIM cards on Android. Look for options labeled Add eSIM or Add Data Plan. If you find an EID number listed in your device info, your phone has eSIM hardware. If still unsure, contact support@roamix.app with your exact model number.
Which phones support eSIM?
eSIM-compatible phones include iPhone XS, XR, and all newer iPhones including all iPhone 15 and 16 models, Samsung Galaxy S20 through S24 and their Plus and Ultra variants, Google Pixel 3 through 9 series, Motorola Razr, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip models, and flagship Android devices from Sony, Xiaomi, and OPPO. Your device must also be carrier-unlocked.
How do I check if my phone is carrier-unlocked?
The easiest way is to try a SIM card from a different carrier. If calls or data work, your phone is unlocked. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for Carrier Lock: No SIM restrictions. You can also contact your home carrier directly to confirm your unlock status before purchasing a Roamix plan.
Does my phone need to be unlocked to use a Roamix eSIM?
Yes. Your device must be both eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked to use any travel eSIM, including Roamix. A locked device only accepts eSIM profiles from the carrier it is locked to. Most carriers will unlock your device for free once your contract is complete. Contact your home carrier to request an unlock before your trip.
What is an EID number and why does it matter for eSIM?
An EID (Embedded Identity Document) is a unique 32-digit identifier for your phone's eSIM chip, similar to an IMEI number but for the eSIM hardware. If you can find an EID in your phone's settings, under General then About on iPhone or device info on Android, your phone has eSIM hardware installed.
