Using Roamix eSIM as a Mobile Hotspot | Tethering Guide

Yes — all Roamix eSIM plans support personal hotspot (tethering), so you can share your mobile data connection with your laptop, tablet, or other devices. Just keep in mind that hotspot usage counts against your data balance and drains it significantly faster than using your phone alone.

Does Roamix Support Hotspot / Tethering?

All Roamix plans include hotspot/tethering support. There's no extra fee and no separate hotspot allowance — it all comes from the same data bucket. You can connect via Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth tethering, or USB tethering.

How to Enable Hotspot on iPhone

  1. Go to Settings > Personal Hotspot.
  2. Toggle "Allow Others to Join" to on.
  3. Note the Wi-Fi Password shown on screen (you can change it here).
  4. On your laptop or other device, connect to the Wi-Fi network named after your iPhone (e.g., "Marcus's iPhone").

Important: Make sure your Roamix eSIM is set as the Cellular Data source before enabling hotspot. Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data and select your Roamix line.

If Personal Hotspot is greyed out, check that the Roamix eSIM line is enabled and Data Roaming is on.

Connecting via USB (iPhone)

Plug your iPhone into your laptop with a Lightning or USB-C cable. On Mac, it appears automatically as a network interface. On Windows, you may need iTunes installed for the driver.

How to Enable Hotspot on Android

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Hotspot & tethering.
  2. Tap "Wi-Fi hotspot" and toggle it on.
  3. Tap "Hotspot name" and "Hotspot password" to customize them.
  4. On your other device, connect to that Wi-Fi network.

On Samsung Galaxy: Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering > Mobile Hotspot.

Make sure your Roamix eSIM is set as the preferred data SIM under Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > Preferred SIM for mobile data before enabling hotspot.

How Much Data Does Hotspot Use?

Hotspot passes through all the data your connected devices consume. Here's a rough guide to usage rates:

ActivityApproximate Data Per Hour
Web browsing (laptop)~150–300 MB
SD video streaming (720p)~500 MB
HD video streaming (1080p)~1–1.5 GB
4K video streaming~3–7 GB
Video call (Zoom/Teams)~500–1,000 MB
Music streaming (Spotify)~50–150 MB

For a work trip where you're browsing and on calls, expect to use 500–800 MB per hour of active use. Plan accordingly and consider topping up before you start.

Speed Considerations

Your hotspot connection is only as fast as your eSIM's data connection. If you're on a 4G LTE network with 30 Mbps download, that 30 Mbps is shared across all connected devices. Connecting three devices simultaneously means each gets roughly 10 Mbps under ideal conditions — still plenty for video calls and browsing.

5G networks dramatically improve the multi-device experience, with real-world speeds of 100–400 Mbps available to split across devices.

Tips for Getting the Most from Hotspot

  • Charge your phone: hotspot is the fastest way to drain your battery. Plug in or carry a power bank.
  • Close background apps on connected devices to prevent unexpected data consumption.
  • Use USB tethering when your phone is plugged into a laptop — it charges your phone at the same time and is often more stable than Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • Monitor data usage in the Roamix dashboard and set a reminder before long work sessions.

Running low while working remotely? Top up your Roamix plan from the dashboard in seconds — your connection stays live with no reinstall needed.
