How to Switch Between Home SIM and Roamix eSIM

You don't need to choose one or the other — modern phones let you run both your home SIM and your Roamix eSIM at the same time. The recommended setup is to keep your home SIM active for calls and texts while using Roamix for all data. Switching is a quick toggle in Settings.

Run both SIMs simultaneously:

  • Home SIM: stays active for incoming calls, SMS, and OTPs
  • Roamix eSIM: handles all mobile data

This is called Dual SIM Active (DSDA) mode and most modern smartphones support it. Your home number stays reachable, you avoid expensive home carrier roaming data rates, and your WhatsApp, iMessage, and banking apps all work normally because your home number is still live.

How to Switch Data SIM on iPhone

You can change which SIM handles data without disabling either SIM line:

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular.
  2. Tap "Cellular Data".
  3. Select Roamix (or whatever you named your eSIM) as the data source.
  4. Leave both lines toggled "On" — there's no need to disable your home SIM.

Your iPhone will now route all data through Roamix while still receiving calls and SMS on your home number. You can switch back to your home SIM's data at any time from the same menu.

iPhone Models and eSIM Support

  • iPhone XS, XR and later: Dual SIM (nano-SIM + eSIM)
  • iPhone 13 and later: Two eSIMs supported simultaneously
  • iPhone 14 (US models) and later: eSIM only, supports multiple eSIMs stored

How to Switch Data SIM on Android

The exact path varies by manufacturer:

Google Pixel: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > Preferred SIM for Calls/Data > select Roamix for Data.

Samsung Galaxy: Settings > Connections > SIM card manager > Mobile data > select Roamix SIM.

OnePlus / OPPO: Settings > SIM card & mobile network > Mobile data > select Roamix.

Motorola: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > set Preferred SIM for data.

On all Android devices, you can set a preferred SIM for data independently of the SIM used for calls — keep calls on your home SIM and data on Roamix.

Keeping Both SIMs On at the Same Time

This is the best approach. There's no downside to having both lines enabled simultaneously:

  • Your device automatically routes data through whichever SIM you've designated as the data source.
  • Incoming calls and SMS still arrive on whichever SIM they're addressed to.
  • You avoid roaming charges on your home plan while still being reachable.

The only time you'd want to disable your home SIM is if your home carrier charges a daily roaming fee just for having the SIM active. In that case, switching the home SIM line to "off" while keeping Roamix on prevents the fee.

When You Return Home

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data (iPhone) or Settings > SIM card manager (Android).
  2. Switch the data source back to your home SIM.
  3. Your Roamix eSIM remains installed and inactive — it will be there for your next trip or to top up if you travel again.

You don't need to delete the Roamix eSIM when you get home. Just disable it or leave it as a non-data SIM and it will sit quietly until you need it again.

Heading somewhere new? Check Roamix for destination plans — your installed eSIM profile works across all supported countries.
