How to Activate Your Roamix eSIM Data Plan

Your Roamix eSIM is installed before you travel, but your data plan activates automatically the first time your phone connects to a supported local network at your destination. You don't need to tap any "Activate" button — arrival does it for you.

How Does Activation Work?

Roamix plans use auto-activation. The moment your device connects to a supported carrier network in your destination country, the plan becomes active and your validity period begins. Until that first connection, the clock doesn't start — so installing early at home costs you nothing.

This means you should install the eSIM before your trip (you need Wi-Fi for installation) and then simply turn it on when you land.

Activating on iPhone After Landing

  1. Open Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data depending on your iOS version).
  2. Tap your Roamix eSIM line (it may appear as "Roamix", "Travel eSIM", or "Secondary").
  3. Toggle "Turn On This Line" to enabled (green).
  4. Go back to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data and select your Roamix eSIM as the data source.
  5. Tap your Roamix line again and make sure "Data Roaming" is toggled on.

That's it. Your iPhone will connect within 1–3 minutes of landing.

Which iPhone Models Support eSIM?

iPhone XS (2018) and later all support eSIM. iPhone 14 and later (US models) are eSIM-only — no physical SIM tray.

Activating on Android After Landing

Steps vary slightly by manufacturer, but the general path is:

  1. Open Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs (Samsung: Settings > Connections > SIM card manager).
  2. Select your Roamix eSIM from the list.
  3. Toggle "Use eSIM" or "Enable" to on.
  4. Set it as the preferred SIM for Mobile Data.
  5. Enable Roaming or International Roaming for that SIM.

On Google Pixel: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > [Roamix eSIM] > Roaming. On Samsung Galaxy: Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Data Roaming.

What If It Doesn't Connect Right Away?

After landing, give your phone 2–3 minutes to scan for networks. If it still shows "No Service" or "Searching":

  • Toggle Airplane Mode: Swipe to control center, enable Airplane Mode for 10 seconds, then disable it. This forces your phone to re-scan all available networks.
  • Restart your device: A full restart clears any network state issues.
  • Check Data Roaming is enabled: This is the most common cause of eSIM not connecting — it must be on.
  • Verify your eSIM line is enabled: Back in Settings > Cellular, confirm the Roamix line is toggled on.

When Does My Validity Period Start?

Your plan validity only begins when the eSIM makes its first data connection at your destination. If you install the eSIM at home and keep the line disabled until you land, your validity period starts on arrival — not at purchase or installation.

For example, if you buy a 7-day plan and your flight lands Monday at 9 AM, your plan runs until the following Monday at 9 AM (adjusted for when the first data connection occurs).

Need more data before your trip ends? Top up your existing plan from the Roamix dashboard in seconds — no new QR code, no reinstall required.
