Using WhatsApp, iMessage & More With a Roamix eSIM

Your WhatsApp, iMessage, Signal, and Telegram all work exactly as they do at home when you're on Roamix. Your phone number — which these apps use for identity — doesn't change. The only thing Roamix adds is a data connection; your number stays tied to your home SIM.

Your Number Stays the Same

Messaging apps like WhatsApp and iMessage are registered to your phone number, not to your physical SIM card or data connection. When you add a Roamix eSIM in a second SIM slot, your home SIM and phone number are still active — you just now have Roamix handling your data traffic.

Your contacts can still reach you on the same number. Your chat history is untouched. Nothing about your messaging identity changes.

iMessage — One Prompt to Watch For

When you install your Roamix eSIM on iPhone, iOS may ask:

"Use this number for iMessage and FaceTime?"

Tap "Keep Current Number" or "No". This ensures your Apple ID-linked phone number (your home number) remains the one associated with iMessage and FaceTime. If you accidentally tap the wrong option, you can fix it in:

Settings > Messages > Send & Receive — make sure your home phone number (not the Roamix line) is checked.

Settings > FaceTime > You Can Be Reached At — same thing, ensure your home number is selected.

WhatsApp — No Action Required

WhatsApp only prompts you to re-verify your number if you physically swap the SIM in your primary slot and WhatsApp detects a different SIM. In a Dual SIM setup, your primary SIM stays in place — WhatsApp sees no change and won't ask you to reverify.

If WhatsApp ever asks you to confirm your number while abroad (usually because of a software update or re-login), just complete the verification. Your home number will receive the SMS confirmation code — roaming SMS typically works even without a data plan on your home line.

Signal and Telegram

Both apps work over any active data connection. Signal and Telegram don't query your SIM at all after initial registration. With Roamix providing data, they work exactly as they do on Wi-Fi. No setup steps needed.

FaceTime and Video Calls

FaceTime over data works the same as over Wi-Fi. Roamix provides a standard internet connection, so any app that works on Wi-Fi works on Roamix — FaceTime, Google Meet, Zoom, WhatsApp Video, Teams. All of them.

For best quality on video calls, expect to use around 500–1,000 MB per hour. A 30-minute FaceTime call uses roughly 250–500 MB, depending on video quality.

Bank SMS and One-Time Passwords (OTPs)

Bank verification texts and OTPs are sent to your phone number — meaning your home SIM receives them, not your Roamix eSIM. This is correct behavior. As long as your home SIM is in your phone (even without a local data plan), it can receive SMS internationally in most countries.

If your home carrier charges roaming SMS fees, you can often forward OTPs using your bank's app or an authenticator app instead. Check your bank's security settings before traveling.

Calls and Texts to Your Home Number

Your home SIM handles incoming calls and texts as normal. Your Roamix eSIM is data-only and doesn't have a separate phone number. To make outgoing calls abroad cheaply, use WhatsApp, FaceTime Audio, or any VoIP app over your Roamix data connection.

Using Roamix data to stay in touch with family back home? Every call and message goes through your Roamix plan — top up anytime from the Roamix dashboard if you need more.
