How to Install eSIM on Android
On this page
Installing a Roamix eSIM on Android takes about 3–5 minutes. The exact steps differ slightly between Samsung, Google Pixel, and other manufacturers, but all follow the same core path: find the SIM settings, add a new SIM via QR code, and confirm the download. The critical final step — enabling data roaming on the Roamix eSIM — is easy to miss but essential.
Before You Start
- eSIM-compatible Android device — check the compatibility list at roamix.app if unsure
- Carrier unlocked phone — most Android devices purchased SIM-free or outright are unlocked
- Stable Wi-Fi connection — home Wi-Fi is best; avoid airport Wi-Fi for installation
- Your Roamix QR code — from your order confirmation email or roamix.app → My eSIMs
- A second device to display the QR — laptop, tablet, or a friend's phone
Samsung Galaxy: Step-by-Step
- Open Settings
- Tap Connections
- Tap SIM Card Manager (or SIM Manager on newer models)
- Tap Add SIM or tap the + button
- Tap Scan QR code
- Hold your phone's camera over the Roamix QR code displayed on your second device
- Follow the on-screen prompts — tap Confirm when the plan details appear
- Wait for the eSIM profile to download (1–3 minutes)
- When installation completes, you'll see the Roamix eSIM listed alongside your physical SIM
Set Roamix as the data SIM:
- In SIM Card Manager, tap Mobile data → select the Roamix eSIM
- Set Calls → your physical home SIM
Google Pixel: Step-by-Step
- Open Settings
- Tap Network & Internet
- Tap SIMs
- Tap the + button
- Tap Download a SIM instead? (at the bottom of the screen)
- Tap Next
- Scan your Roamix QR code when prompted
- Review the plan details and tap Confirm
- Wait for the download to complete
Set Roamix as the data SIM:
- Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs
- Tap Use SIM for
- Set Data to Roamix eSIM
- Set Calls to your physical SIM
Other Android Devices
For Motorola, Oppo, Sony Xperia, Xiaomi, Nokia, and other Android phones, the general path is:
- Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile Networks (or Settings → Connections → Mobile Networks)
- Look for Add SIM, Add Cellular Plan, or a + button in the SIM section
- Select Download a new SIM or Scan QR code
- Scan your Roamix QR code
- Follow the on-screen prompts
If you can't find these options, search your Settings app for "SIM" or "eSIM" — most Android phones with eSIM support surface the option through search.
Enable Data Roaming After Install — Critical Step
This is the step most travelers miss. On Android, data roaming must be enabled on your Roamix eSIM for it to work abroad.
On Samsung:
- Settings → Connections → SIM Card Manager → tap the Roamix eSIM
- Toggle Data roaming to on
On Pixel:
- Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → tap the Roamix eSIM
- Toggle Roaming to on
On other Android:
- Settings → Mobile Network → tap the Roamix eSIM
- Enable Data Roaming or International Roaming
Also turn data roaming off on your home SIM to ensure it doesn't pick up any roaming charges while abroad.
Manufacturer Differences Note
Android settings menus vary significantly across manufacturers and even between software versions from the same manufacturer. If the steps above don't match your screen exactly, search your Settings app for "eSIM" or "Add SIM" — the feature is almost always findable that way. You can also enter your eSIM details manually if QR scanning isn't available: look for an "Enter manually" or "I don't have a QR code" option during the setup flow.
