One eSIM, One Device — Why?
When you install an eSIM, the profile is cryptographically bound to the hardware of that specific device. The GSMA standard (which governs all eSIM technology globally) requires this binding to prevent profile cloning and unauthorized plan sharing.
This means:
- A Roamix eSIM installed on your iPhone cannot also be active on your iPad
- A plan installed on your partner's Samsung cannot simultaneously run on your Pixel
- Attempting to download the same profile on a second device will fail
This isn't a limitation unique to Roamix — it applies to all eSIM plans from all providers worldwide.
The QR Code Is Single-Use
Your Roamix QR code can only be scanned once. After a successful installation, the code is invalidated on Roamix's provisioning server. If you or anyone else tries to scan it again, the device will display an error such as:
- "This code is no longer valid"
- "QR Code is Not Valid"
- "Activation code already used"
This is a security measure — it prevents someone who sees your QR code from installing your paid plan on their own device.
Buying for Someone Else
If you want to get data for a travel companion, purchase a separate Roamix plan for them. The process is straightforward:
- Go to roamix.app and buy a plan (the same plan you'd buy for yourself)
- Once purchased, your QR code and installation codes appear in your dashboard
- Forward the confirmation email to your travel companion, or share the QR code image directly
- They install the eSIM on their device using their phone's SIM settings
- The plan activates on their device when they arrive at the destination
You can buy plans for multiple people in the same session — simply buy one plan per person, each generating its own unique QR code.
Share Data Instead via Hotspot
If you only want to buy one plan but need internet on multiple devices (for example, a laptop and a phone), you can use Personal Hotspot (iPhone) or Mobile Hotspot (Android):
- The device with the Roamix eSIM connects to the travel network
- Turn on Personal Hotspot / Mobile Hotspot in your Settings
- Other phones, tablets, and laptops connect to that hotspot via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth
- All devices share the data from the single Roamix plan
Keep in mind:
- Hotspot sharing uses your Roamix data allowance faster — a laptop streaming video will consume data quickly
- Not all Roamix plans permit hotspot/tethering — check the plan description before relying on this
- The hotspot device's battery will drain faster while sharing
What If I Get a New Phone?
eSIM profiles are bound to the device they were installed on and cannot be transferred digitally in most cases. If you're switching to a new phone:
- Contact Roamix support before deleting the eSIM from your old device — support@roamix.app
- Roamix will assess whether a replacement profile can be issued based on your account history and remaining data
- Do not delete the eSIM from your old phone until you have confirmation from support
If your plan has already been partially used, note that used data cannot be refunded or transferred — only any remaining allowance is at issue.
