Using Your Home SIM and Roamix eSIM Together
On this page
You don't have to choose between your home number and affordable travel data. With Dual SIM mode, your phone runs both your physical home SIM and your Roamix eSIM at the same time — calls and texts come through your regular number, while data flows through Roamix at local rates.
What Is Dual SIM Mode?
Dual SIM lets your phone manage two active SIM profiles simultaneously. You can assign each SIM a different role:
- Home SIM → default voice line, iMessage, FaceTime, SMS
- Roamix eSIM → cellular data (fast, affordable, no roaming fees)
This setup means friends, family, and your bank still reach you on your regular number, while you avoid the data roaming charges your home carrier would add.
How to Set Up Dual SIM on iPhone
- Go to Settings → Cellular (or Settings → Mobile Data on some regions)
- You'll see both SIM lines listed — your physical SIM and your Roamix eSIM
- Tap Cellular Data and select your Roamix eSIM as the data line
- Go back to the Cellular main screen and tap Default Voice Line — keep this set to your home SIM
- Scroll down to iMessage & FaceTime and confirm they're set to your home SIM's number
That's the complete setup. Your home number receives calls and messages as normal, and all your apps, maps, and browsing use Roamix data.
Should I turn off data roaming on my home SIM?
Yes — this is the key step that prevents surprise charges. Once you've set Roamix as your data SIM:
- In Settings → Cellular, tap your home SIM line
- Make sure Data Roaming is toggled off
This ensures your home carrier cannot charge you for data while abroad, even if your Roamix connection temporarily drops.
How to Set Up Dual SIM on Android
The exact steps vary slightly by manufacturer, but the general path is:
- Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs (or Connections → SIM Manager on Samsung)
- You'll see both SIMs listed — tap the option for Preferred SIM for mobile data or Cellular data
- Select your Roamix eSIM
- Set your home SIM as the preferred SIM for calls
On Samsung Galaxy specifically:
- Settings → Connections → SIM Card Manager
- Tap Mobile data → select Roamix eSIM
- Tap Calls → select your home SIM
On Google Pixel:
- Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs
- Tap Use SIM for → set Data to Roamix eSIM, Calls to home SIM
After setting your preferred data SIM, navigate to your home SIM's settings and disable Data Roaming to avoid any charges from your home carrier.
The Recommended Configuration
| Setting | Home SIM | Roamix eSIM |
|---|---|---|
| Voice calls | Default | Off / secondary |
| SMS / Text | Default | Off |
| Mobile data | Off (roaming disabled) | On |
| iMessage / FaceTime | Yes | No |
Will I Get Charged by My Home Carrier?
Not for data, as long as Data Roaming is turned off on your home SIM line. Your home carrier may still charge for incoming or outgoing calls placed through your home SIM while abroad — check your carrier's international call rates if you plan to use it for calls. Using WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Google Meet over your Roamix data connection is always free (other than the Roamix data it uses).
