TCL NxtPaper eSIM support is limited to the Pro and XE variants — the 50 Pro, 60 XE, and 70 Pro. Standard NxtPaper models (without Pro or XE in the name) have physical SIM trays only.
US carrier lock: TCL devices are frequently sold through T-Mobile, Cricket, and MetroPCS. These are carrier-locked at purchase. T-Mobile requires 40 days of active service and the device fully paid off before unlocking. Cricket and MetroPCS require 6 months. The unlock must be completed before installing any third-party eSIM.
Regional note: TCL NxtPaper models sold in Europe and Asia-Pacific regions are typically unlocked at purchase and work with Roamix directly. US retail unlocked models (purchased from TCL directly or Amazon without carrier branding) also work without the unlock step.
How to Activate eSIM on TCL NxtPaper
- Open Settings.
- Tap Network & internet.
- Tap SIM cards.
- Tap Add eSIM.
- Select Scan QR code.
- Scan the Roamix QR code received via email — device must be on Wi-Fi.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the download.
- Set the Roamix eSIM as your default Mobile data line.
- Enable Data roaming for the Roamix profile.
Troubleshooting TCL NxtPaper eSIM
"Add eSIM" option missing in SIM cards: Your NxtPaper is either a non-Pro/non-XE variant (no eSIM hardware) or it is carrier-locked and the carrier has disabled the eSIM menu. Verify your model in Settings → About phone. If you have a Pro/XE model bought from T-Mobile/Cricket, request the unlock first.
eSIM installed but no data abroad: Confirm the Roamix eSIM is set as your Mobile data line: Settings → Network & internet → SIM cards → select Roamix eSIM → set as default for Mobile data. Also check Data roaming is enabled on the Roamix line specifically.
QR code scan fails or times out: The device must be connected to Wi-Fi during the eSIM download — mobile data alone is not sufficient. If scanning fails repeatedly, use the manual activation code option under the QR scan screen and enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your Roamix email.
"eSIM not supported on this device": You have a base TCL NxtPaper without the Pro or XE suffix. These models do not have eSIM chips. This cannot be resolved by a software update — it is a hardware limitation of the non-Pro NxtPaper variants.

TCL NxtPaper Series eSIM — Frequently Asked Questions
Does the standard TCL NxtPaper (non-Pro) support eSIM?
No. eSIM is only available on the NxtPaper 50 Pro, 60 XE, and 70 Pro. The base NxtPaper models without the Pro or XE suffix do not have eSIM hardware. Confirm your model in Settings → About phone before purchasing.
My NxtPaper was purchased from T-Mobile — do I need to unlock it first?
Yes. T-Mobile-branded TCL devices are locked for 40 days from first activation and must be fully paid off. Request unlock via T-Mobile's app or website. Roamix installation will fail on a locked device — unlock must be completed first.
How do I add an eSIM on the TCL NxtPaper 70 Pro?
Settings → Network & internet → SIM cards → Add eSIM → Scan QR code. Scan the Roamix QR code from your email while connected to Wi-Fi. After download, set Roamix as your default Mobile data line and enable Data roaming.
Can I use two SIMs simultaneously on the NxtPaper?
Yes. You can run one physical nano-SIM and one eSIM at the same time. Set your primary number on the physical SIM and use the Roamix eSIM for mobile data when traveling — configure per-line preferences under SIM cards in Settings.
