The Sony Xperia 5 IV and 5 V support eSIM on the international firmware variant. eSIM was added starting with the Xperia 5 IV — earlier Xperia 5 models (I, II, III) do not have eSIM. One active eSIM alongside the physical nano-SIM at a time.

Japan carrier firmware warning: Xperia 5 devices purchased through docomo, au, or SoftBank in Japan may reject non-Japanese eSIM profiles even after SIM unlock. International firmware is required. Check Settings → About phone → Build number for carrier identifiers.

How to Activate eSIM on Sony Xperia 5 Series

Activation requires a stable Wi-Fi connection:

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap Network & internet.
3. Tap Mobile network.
4. Tap Add eSIM.
5. Select Scan QR code.
6. Scan the QR code sent by Roamix to your email.
7. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
8. Set the Roamix eSIM as your preferred data SIM.
9. Turn on Data Roaming in the settings for the Roamix line.

Sony Xperia 5 eSIM for International Travel

Roamix works with any unlocked Xperia 5 IV or V running international firmware. Purchase a plan, scan the QR code on Wi-Fi, and connect to local networks on arrival.

Carrier unlock check: Settings → About phone → SIM lock status. Contact your carrier if locked.

Troubleshooting Sony Xperia 5 eSIM

"Add eSIM" or "Download a SIM" missing: Check Settings → Network & internet → SIMs for the + icon. If absent, your device may be carrier-locked — contact your carrier to unlock.

eSIM activates but profile rejected or "Activation failed": Japanese carrier firmware (docomo, au, SoftBank) may reject non-Japanese eSIM profiles even after SIM unlock. You need the international non-carrier firmware to use Roamix on a Japan-purchased Xperia 5.

eSIM installed but no data abroad: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → select Roamix → enable Data Roaming → set as preferred data SIM. Toggle Airplane Mode on/off.

QR code scan fails: Confirm device is on Wi-Fi. If scanning fails repeatedly, tap "Enter manually" in the Add eSIM flow and enter the SM-DP+ address from your Roamix confirmation email.
